Current and Past Projects

Advancement of Spatial Data Infrastructure
Advance the State's Spatial Data Infrastructure through digital data conversion, data development, and coordination with federal geospatial data initiatives, statewide mapping programs, and local data producers.

WV Geographic Information Network (Map West Virginia)
Support public access to geospatial data and information through the WV Geographic Information Network, a suite of Internet services that include online map viewers, web mapping services, metadata catalogs, and ftp download services. It also provides news about present and future mapping activities.

Strategic Planning
Assist with strategic planning, development and implementation of statewide mapping guidelines. Specific activities include the electronic submission of incorporated boundaries and creating statewide digital tax mapping guidelines. Coordinate with state, federal, local government and private sector entities to define, refine, and implement the GIS Coordinating Council and State Strategic Plan.

Technical Support Services
Provide outreach, educational and training support, and advisory services to the citizens, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and businesses of West Virginia in the area of GIS and related spatial data handling technologies.

The National Map
Partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey to develop a consistent set of seamless, core geographic layers for The National Map.

SAMB Base Layer Development
Collaborate with the Statewide Addressing and Mapping Board, SAMB Project Management Team, State GIS Coordinator, U.S. Geological Survey, and other partners to create a value-added, higher resolution 1:4800-scale digital base map for West Virginia. These new elevation, transportation, hydrology and administrative map layers will benefit the mapping requirements of statewide geospatial community.

Flood Hazard Mapping
As a Cooperative Technical Partner with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, assist in the implementation of a statewide digital flood-mapping program.

Trout Stream Mapping
Created a Trout Stream Stocking Internet mapping application for the WV Division of Natural Resources.
