Abstract:

Gap Analysis is a broad-scale conservation effort focused on identifying wildlife habitats and species under-represented in current conservation lands. As part of the West Virginia Gap Analysis project, vegetation and land cover information were derived from classified Landsat TM satellite imagery obtained in 1993 and 1994. Training data for image classification included vegetation points identified from aerial videography flights. Ancillary data used in classification and in final data set (in some cases) includes National Wetlands Inventory data, USGS DLG roads data, and EPA MRLC land use/land cover data.

Purpose:

This dataset serves as a key input to the West Virginia Gap Analysis vertebrate wildlife distribution modeling process.
