  Description:
    Abstract:
      The MNF routed road network was created as part of the
      INFRA project. A digital version of the forest road network
      that conforms to the national INFRA standard is a required
      part of the INFRA project.
    Purpose:
      This data set provides a routed road network that conforms
      to national INFRA standards and is provided as a management
      tool for the forest. The coverage conforms to National Map
      Accuracy Standards (NMAS) at the 1:24000 scale as
      identified by the U.S. Geological Survey.

      All attributes entered during the creation process were
      verified by displaying the lines in both the database and
      spatial coverage, but no formal tests were performed.
  Logical_Consistency_Report:
    These data are believed to be logically consistent, though
    no tests were performed. Line geometry is topologically clean.
  Completeness_Report:
    Contains roads from cartographic feature files, digital
    ortho quarter quads and the Engineering Transportation
    Atlas for the Monongahela National Forest.

        The horizontal positional accuracy of the CFF reflects the
        nature of the source PBS map. PBS maps are compiled to meet
        National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS). For the horizontal
        component, the NMAS states that 90 percent of well-defined
        points on a map fall within a specified distance of the
        actual position on the ground -- 1/50th of an inch at map
        scale for 1:24000- and 1:63360-scale. CFFs are estimated to
        contain a horizontal positional accuracy of less than or
        equal to 0.005 inches in one direction relative to the
        source graphic. The source graphic is used to assess
        digital positional accuracy.

        This data was created by using a USGS 7.5 minute
        Topographic Map at 1:24000 scale to delineate the linework.
        Therefore, the vertical accuracy is assumed to be within
        National Map Accuracy Standards. For the vertical
        component, the NMAS states that 90 percent of well-defined
        points on a map fall within a specified distance of the
        actual elevation (1/2 of the contour interval or 10-20 feet).

      Process_Description:
        The cartographic feature file (cff) data was aquired from
        the Geospatial Service and Technology Center (GSTC) and
        imported into ArcInfo. All roads were extracted and a
        printed map was given to Engineering for editing.
        Engineering edited the Forest Service system roads to
        conform to the TRansportation Atlas and Transportation
        Inventory System (TIS). The printed map was returned to the
        GIS group and the digital file was edited to reflect the
        updates. The corrections were made by on-screen digitizing
        using the Primary Base Series maps and digital
        orthophotography as a backdrop. The coverage was then
        routed and attributed using INFRA Travel Route tools.
